FAQ
What genre are Merren Tait books?
Romantic Comedy.
Are they funny?
Yes. My brand promise is that they will make you laugh - hopefully riotously - hence the tagline Rom-Com Riot, which also refers to the books being a little subversive and irreverent, and featuring empowered women.
Where are they set?
The Good Life series is set in New Zealand. My other books are set in the UK, or feature a British main character.
What books are similar to yours?
The humour in my books is often like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, Christina Lauren's funnier books, or The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.
What books or authors influence you?
My first love in the romantic comedy genre was Sophie Kinsella, followed by Janet Evanovich (though technically, she writes cosy thrillers with romantic subplots).
I love love love Alexis Hall's rom-coms (namely Boyfriend Material and 10 Things That Never Happened), and I've made a study of the humour in Eoin Colfer's, Caimh McDonnell's and Richard Osman's cosy thrillers (his We Solve Murders series). Who knows? I might just write a cosy thriller myself one day.
What tropes do you have in your books?
Only all the best ones:
Real Life and Other Disasters has 'enemies-to-lovers' and 'brother's best friend'
The Good Life Series is all 'small-town romance'
The Year of the Fox is your classic 'boy next door' story
Odd Girl Roar is a 'geek girl romance'
